From Gloucestershire Gazette:
This year’s Christmas concert by the Dursley-based Tyndale Choral Society will again provide a showcase for up-and-coming young instrumentalists in the area.
The concert, at St Bartholomew’s Church in Cam on 18th December, will feature Christmas music from the Oxford Book of Carols, as well as the chorus ‘Glory to God’ from Handel’s Messiah.
However, there will also be instrumental music from five youngsters selected by local music tutor Kim Ward.
Choir Chairman Magnus Carter said: “Last year, we showcased contributions from three young lads who I thought deserved a wider audience for the quality of their playing. This year, the same three return, along with two others of outstanding talent.”
Leo Lai and Theo Bennett will open the Showcase with a clarinet duet medley of the old Christmas favourites Deck the Hall and Ding Dong Merrily on High. Leo will later play a jazz version of It’s Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Christmas on piano.
Benedict Coupe, piano, will play a jazz version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, the song originally performed by Judy Garland in the film Meet Me in St Louis. There will also be piano solos from Sophia Oborne and Will Coulsting – who will mark the 40th anniversary of Leonard Cohen’s song Hallelujah.
The concert is at 7pm on Wednesday 18th December, under the baton of Music Director Ben Sawyer. Members of the audience will be able to join in with five of the most popular carols. Tickets are £10, including seasonal refreshments.
